Here are your Championship transfer headlines for Sunday, August 23.

Jamal Lowe omitted from Wigan friendly

Swansea City and Celtic target Jamal Lowe was left out of Wigan's friendly defeat by Carlisle United as his departure looms, according to Portsmouth News..

The winger was the subject of a £500,000 bid from the Swans, but the Latics are said to be holding out for at least £750,000 so they can pay off a fee to Portsmouth, the club from which they bought him last summer.

Wigan entered administration and need to bolster the coffers in order to pay off their creditors. As such, a number of high-profile stars are set to leave.

Kieffer Moore joined Cardiff for around £2m while Antonee Robinson was bought by Fulham for a similar price. Joe Gelhardt was picked up by Leeds United while Brighton bought Jensen Weir.

Lowe now looks set to be the next player out the door, with the player having not been risked in the club's 2-1 defeat at their training ground this weekend.

Middlesbrough eye Gibson return

Cardiff City will be boosted by the news Middlesbrough are reportedly looking to re-sign former captain Ben Gibson.

Neil Warnock is looking to bolster his defence for the upcoming campaign and have targeted a new centre-back as a priority in the transfer market.

Reports emerged this weekend that Warnock was in for City fan favourite Sol Bamba and hoped they could prise him away from Cardiff City Stadium for a 'nominal fee'.

However, City fans will hope fresh reports that Warnock wants Gibson back will take his concentration away from Bamba.

The 27-year-old Gibson made the move to Burnley in 2018, but has played just six times since arriving at Turf Moor.

Gibson is said to want to leave the Premier League side, but still has two years left on his contract in Lancashire.

According to the Hartlepool Mail though, Middlesbrough are keen on sorting a return to Teesside, although a loan move would require the Clarets to pay a significant part of the defender’s wages in the Championship.

Swansea and Stoke target training with non-league club

Swansea City and Stoke City target Daniel Ayala is training with non-league Nantwich Town as he builds up his fitness ahead of securing a permanent deal somewhere.

The 29-year-old defender was let go by Neil Warnock up at Middlesbrough, with both the Swans and the Potters having registered an interest in recent weeks.

However, he looks no closer to a permanent switch after the Stoke Sentinel reported that the Spaniard, formerly of Liverpool of course, is now training with Nantwich.

The Swans were thought to be eyeing him up as a potential replacement for Mike van der Hoorn.

Spurs doubts over Aarons move

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly having second thoughts over pursuing a move for Norwich City’s Max Aarons.

The defender has been linked with a move to north London following the Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League.

But while Spurs are thought to be long-term admirers of the 20-year-old, according to The Athletic , Mourinho has some doubts.

The Portuguese is said to be having second thoughts over Aarons’ ability to suit the way he wants his side to play, which could lead to them looking at other targets.

Fulham join race for Eze

Fulham have joined the growing race to sign Eberechi Eze from QPR, according to reports.

Eze has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs this summer, and was not included in the R’s matchday squad for their friendly against AFC Wimbledon.

West Ham, Newcastle and West Brom have all been linked with the England Under-21 international, while Crystal Palace failed with a £12million bid earlier this month.

And, according to Sky Sports , Fulham have now joined the race, although QPR boss Mark Warburton has indicated they will only let Eze leave if the club’s valuation is met.
