Here are the Premier League transfer headlines for Sunday, August 23.

Man Utd rebuffed after launching £27m Costa bid

Manchester United are seriously pursuing other avenues as Corriere dello Sport claim Juventus have rejected a £27million bid for winger Douglas Costa.

The Red Devils are keen to land Jadon Sancho, however they believe Borussia Dortmund's £108m valuation to be far too high and are now looking at Plan Bs.

Welshmen Rabbi Matondo and David Brooks are both players of interest to United, with the latter thought to cost around £40m from Bournemouth.

However, it looks as though United have turned their attentions to Brazilian ace Costa.

Juve chief Fabio Paratici has flown into London in order to thrash out a number of deals for the Old Lady, who are trying to thin their squad and cut down their wage bill, and Costa could be one of the players to make way.

However, the Italian giants are looking for more than the £27m United have made as their opening offer. It is thought Juve are holding out for around £36m.

And, according to the Express , United are now considering whether they should put a hold on their pursuit of Sancho until next summer.

Leeds launch double Liverpool raid

Recently-promoted Leeds United are reportedly hoping to launch a shock double raid of Liverpool to sign Divock Origi and ex-Swansea City loanee Rhian Brewster.

Leeds are thought to have their sights set on landing Celtic front man Odsonne Edouard, however, they could sound out the Premier League champions over signing two of their forwards if that deal never comes to fruition.

The Mirror report that Origi wants to stay in the Premier League but wants regular game time, which he would likely get at Elland Road.

Brewster, meanwhile, is said to be a loan target for Marcelo Bielsa.

Swansea City and a host of Championship and Premier League sides are said to be interested in the 20-year-old following his brilliant campaign on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season.

Arsenal look to hijack Liverpool deal

Arsenal are among a number of clubs reportedly looking to hijack Liverpool's pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The talented Spaniard has been a target for Liverpool all summer, however no deal appears to have been struck between the two clubs.

With a deal seemingly stalling, the Daily Mail r eport that the Gunners have checked in with Bayern over their asking price and the player's wage demands.

The 29-year-old has one year left on his current deal and Liverpool believe the asking price of £23m, along with what are expected to be hefty wage demands, to be too high.

Arsenal are reportedly in that boat, too, but have sounded the German giants out over potentially lowering their bar in order for a potential deal to get over the line.

Aston Villa want Liverpool midfielder Grujic

Aston Villa are being linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic.

According to Goal, the 24-year-old emerged as a transfer target for Villa this summer having been deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Dean Smith's side are keen to step up their search for new recruits having returned to pre-season training.

Serbia international Grujic returned to Liverpool from a two season-long loan spell at Hertha Berlin, where he impressed in the Bundesliga.

Hertha want to take Grujic, who did well on loan at Cardiff City while helping them to Premier League promotion in 2017/18, back to the German capital but the Premier League champions would rather sell than loan him out again.

The Reds are reportedly willing to negotiate a deal worth around £20m with interested clubs, of which there are said to be many.

Foxes identify Chilwell replacement

Leicester City have reportedly discussed Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico as they begin to look for replacements for Ben Chilwell.

The England international is thought to be closing in on a move to Chelsea, while the Foxes could now go after one of the Blues’ former targets.

Tagliafico was previously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but with Chilwell apparently set for a big-money move, the King Power Stadium could prove to be his next destination.

The Daily Mail report that the 27-year-old has a number of offers and would prefer to join a Champions League side, but recognises Leicester’s status as a Premier League contender.

Wolves ready to cash in on Traore

Wolves are reportedly ready to cash in on Adama Traore this summer, with Nuno Espirito Santo told he needs to raise his own transfer funds.

The club’s owners Fosun International are said to be tightening the purse strings after being hit by the coronavirus pandemic, which could lead to a few departures.

The Mirror report that Wolves are now prepared to listen to offers for Traore, who has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Wolves hope that those two clubs will make substantial bids for the 24-year-old, with the Reds and City seeing Traore as an impact player.
